Fund A Cure is a unique opportunity to make a 100% tax-deductible donation to JDRF that will fund vital research to cure, treat, and prevent type 1 diabetes (T1D). Since 1994, JDRF has raised over $222 million through Fund A Cure alone.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding T1D research. JDRF's goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and strategic plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D.

As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $530 million in scientific research in 17 countries. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.

Welcome to my personal Fund A Cure page! I'm helping to raise funds for the JDRF South Jersey Chapter 2015 "One World" Gala, and I need your help!

Odds are you also kow someone living with type 1 diabetes (T1D), but do you really know what having diabetes means? And what if that someone was you, your child or spouse or best friend?

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent it, and nothing you can do to get rid of it. The pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. People with T1D need to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin (with injections or a pump) multiple times per day - every day for the rest of their lives. People with diabetes are at constant risk of having their blood sugar levels rise too high or fall too low. These extremes can be life-limiting and life-threatening.

Insulin is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent the many comlications that often accompany diabetes: kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, amputation, and pregnancy complications. Ask people who have T1D, and they will tell you: it's difficult, it's upsetting, it's life-threatening, it never goes away.
